The Falcons must run the ball in order to keep pressure off of Matt Ryan, who's making his first start in the NFL. They will have to pick some spots early for Ryan to pass in order to keep the Lions honest. Otherwise, they'll just pack eight in the box and get after running backs Michael Turner and Jerious Norwood...
The good news is they are ahead of the Chiefs in the rebuilding process, the bad news is they are behind everyone else. There is a new coach, a new quarterback, and a new running back as the Falcons start from scratch. Michael Turner can be a workhorse at running back, and Mike Smith will have to break in Matt Ryan at some point, but this is going to be another very bad year. The Falcons are making the right moves to improve though and it will pay dividends down the road...
