Cardinals Choose Matheny to Succeed La Russa

The Cardinals have named former catcher Mike Matheny as their manager to succeed Tony La Russa, the team announced Sunday night.  Matheny, a former catcher with the Cardinals who had been a minor league instructor, will be introduced as Tony La Russa’s successor as manager at a news conference Monday. Bob Forsch, who threw two no-hitters and won 163 games for St. Louis, more than any other Cardinals pitcher except the Hall of Famers Bob Gibson and Jesse Haines, died Thursday at his home near Tampa, Fla. He was 61.
