Billy Cundiff shanked a 32 yard field goal with 11 seconds left to help the Patriots escape with a 23-20 victory in the AFC Championship game.
It was a strange game for the Patriots as the defense is who saved the day for the Patriots after a quite uncharacteristically bad day from Tom Brady and the offense.
“Well, I sucked pretty bad today, but our defense saved us,” Brady said after throwing for 239 yards, with two interceptions and, for the first time in 36 games, no TD passes.
This sets up a fantastic storyline for the Super Bowl as the Giants won the NFC title game setting up a rematch of the Patriots last trip to the big game when they were stunned by the Giants after going 18-0 four years ago.
Notable:
Brady is now tied for first in NFL history with Joe Montana at 16 wins.
The Patriots are now 4-0 in title games at home and 7-1 overall.
Tom Brady and Bill Belichick have now won 5 conference championships together.
